Shakers and Clacks
A 'shaker' is normally a container, partially full of small loose objects like beads, which create the percussive sounds as they collide with each other or the inside surface, or needles - like on the inside of rainsticks. Another example is the Maraca - which are thought of as characteristic of Latin music, but appear too in pop and classical music. Other examples are: Calabash, Pacay seed shaker, Caxixi rattle, Juju shaker, Cas-cas, Cha-Cha, Sonajas, Cabassa.
A classic example of a 'clack' is a Castanet - traditionally two shells held in the hand, brought together by the closing of the hand, but they can also be found on the end of a stick. (like in our catalogue) This alters the sound and can often be found in an orchestral setting. Other examples of clacks are: Bamboo man clack, Wild man clack, Gecko clack, Lotus clack, Double ended Clack.
